I watched the documentary "Prescription Thugs" the other night and was so impressed with the articulate and impassioned Gwen Olsen that I did some research and found this book written by her.I thought it would be strictly about "Pharma" and somewhat impersonal, but instead a good part of the book is about the author's family and how drugs deleteriously impacted it. The story about her niece was heartbreaking. I do feel that, due to her abuse as a child, even without all the meds prescribed, her end might have been equally tragic. God bless her. But certainly the meds were integral to her feeling that life was unbearable.I was on antidepressants for twenty-five years and Zyprexa for about ten. I had no idea they were numbing my feelings. When I got off them in my early fifties (very slowly!), I was shocked to find all the feelings that came rushing back. Talk about overwhelm!!! Oy. My doctor never said a word about Zyprexa causing diabetes. We're all just guinea pigs in the end when it comes to the chemicals they hand out. Now they've got a new one they are advertising all the time. I can't remember the name, but it's for people who laugh and cry too much. Give me a break!! That must be for the disease called "The Human Condition".Anyway, I enjoyed reading this book. The author articulately illuminates the world of Pharma. It's not philanthropy, that's for sure.
I am impressed with the details of this book... I had always been suspect of being over medicated and once nearly died when five different doctors prescribed a toxic combination of thirteen drugs to help with my combined problems from diabetes, anemia, chronic pain and depression. After four months of feeling worse, I weaned myself off all prescribed drugs but not without feeling suicidal.At one point I lied to my psychiatrist, and stopped taking all meds he prescribed. I refused to take blood tests to find levels and ignored many attempts to try 'new' samples of medication. During the time period of not taking psych medication I started to gain strength and heal with talk therapy. No psych drugs needed. Why did I do this? Because, while on psych drugs I felt lethargic, suicidal, fatigued and lived with no hope. At first, I was afraid to share this information with the same doctors who were treating me because according to my insurance guideline I must be medicated to receive benefits. I was outraged, intimidated and manipulated into buying un-necessary medication and storing un-used meds in my medicine cabinet just to get my medical bills paid by insurance and continue to receive psychiatric help...I am doing well today. My therapy lasted eighteen years and yes, I was a mess. But I healed by working with my therapist and doctors to my individual needs. Without a toxic combination of drugs.I am a survivor of multiple personality disorder. I now see a holistic doctor and never felt better physically and mentally in my life. The mind is powerful and I am a true believer in less is more.In reading this book it not only confirmed my belief but has helped me understand the world of a rx drug sales rep. I am sorry about the loss of Gwen's niece to suicide but glad to read a book that all doctors should read if they are to understand and help their patients get well. My doctors worked with "Me" to heal me. Once I questioned them they each helped me heal without medication. I am grateful to them for that. If you take a prescription medication, read this book then look up everything you can for healthy natural alternatives. What BigPharma is doing to the American public is criminal. I've been in the "industry" for 37 years and this was still an eye-opener.
I have been an independent health scientist for almost 50 years, and I can tell you this lady's story is important. You are not allowed to know or especially to spread real health information in America because the government is integrated with the medical drug dealers and their allies and the chemical food producers, all of which cooperate to keep so-called "health care" the multi-trillion dollar industry that it is (and is about to become a lot worse under "Obamacare"). The medical system is now the number one cause of death in America, and you are meant to believe that the out of control disease and hellish "aging" process are normal. The fact that we would believe any of this for a minute is a tribute to the effectiveness of their campaign of misinformation. All these diseases are preventable and curable and most signs of "aging" are reversible. This is forbidden knowledge in America and many other places now. Take responsibility and learn the real health information for yourself. It's worth the effort. This book is one small insight into what the current system does, but there is much more. The old explanations like this one need only minor adaptation to our current world to be incredibly effective.
