This volume collects all of Injustice: Year Two so skip it if you already have one or both volumes of Year Two. The second year of Injustice is almost entirely based around the opening salvos in the war between Superman's regime and Batman's resistance as well as Superman vs the Green Lantern Corps. While Green Arrow has died, he managed to pass on the formula for Superman's super strength pills that give temporary powers to regular humans. Batman gets these pills to the ground resistance being formed by Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham police force. Meanwhile, Sinestro pledges his aid to Superman believing that Supes' new regime is the perfected form of the "order" Sinestro so craves. With Sinestro's help, Superman becomes more of a target for the Green Lanterns leading the two powers into an all out war. Year Two continues the great work started in Year One with more stellar moments such as Gordon's goodbye to Barbara and Batman, Harley bonding with Black Canary, and Guy Gardner's unsung heroism. Again, the big draw back for me is the same problem I have with the first year: some characters have odd motivations and/or lack of a motivation. Flash takes a big back seat this volume and we don't get to see much more of his mental struggle over his place in the regime. Even worse are the mental gymnastics undertaken by Hal Jordan and Superman to come to grips with the fact that they are allied with Sinestro over their own good friends. It is suggested at certain points that they are being seduced by the fear power of Sinestro's Yellow Lantern rings, but this feels like a cheap, One-Ring esque solution to really push them over the edge for their fall. Overall, though, still a great series.
Reading all of this collection at once for the first time was amazing. I really admire the writer for not only being able to handle all of the numerous characters so well but managing to create such emotional moments that flow well in the mix. There's tons of chaos and something always going on in this universe, that's comics for you, but while you get that in full albeit sometimes dark glory, you have these amazing emotional moments. Sad oftentimes. But also humorous. Harley in here just cracks me up, even side characters I can't remember the name of. The timing of it all is superbly balanced! All in all, this is a good read for anyone who is interested in superheroes. The art is good, the pacing as well, and the utter balance which this is written with. It's also easy to get in, I was a little worried as I'm not into Green Lantern stuff, but that didn't even matter. I found myself getting into the dilemma and even the deaths that come from the big buildups with the Corps.(Then the very end, I won't spoil it, I kind of saw what would happen coming with the events of the previous year, but there's a sprinkle of happiness to be had, maybe cheesy but gosh darn it. They deserve it.)
Year one of Injustice: Gods Among Us set a pretty high bar in terms of story and artwork quality. Happily, Year Two is every bit as good. The action stays in high gear for all twelve issues, and the stakes keeping getting upped. Superman continues to be deranged, and this year throws Sinestro, the Lanterns, and the Guardians into the mix. Tom Taylor sets a blistering pace that never lets up, and once I’d turned the final page, I immediately wanted to pick up Year Three...which I did. Well worth getting.
This series picks up almost immediately where the first series ended. Superman's grasp on Earth is spreading and now a new group has entered the fray - the Sinestro Corp! This introduction is both awesome and, unfortunately, where the series falls a little flat. I get the pace and tone the comic is trying to set, but the speed at which some of these heroes just ignore the morals that used to drive them is a bit much - even for a comic. Example: Green Lantern willingly attacks his closest friends with very little convincing from Sinestro (of all people).Although these little things can be a bit distracting the comic overall is very well done and the story is super interesting. You will not be disappointed!
This series is one of my all-time favorites. I love that it utilizes the full DC universe, and is a true story that is being told. This is not one of those comics that tries to force itself into nice, 4-issue arcs--the ones that always leave you feeling happy that you read it, but utterly unfulfilled. This is one that has a grand story to tell, and does not compromise for the format. It is written incredibly well, showcasing many characters I was only vaguely familiar with (like Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner) and really helped me understand the characters and love their portrayal.
Husband loves to collect comic books. He had Injustice Year One, and requested Injustice Year Two for Christmas. He's a professional, hard working middle age man who is difficult to shop for, but he really enjoyed reading these books. They take him back to his childhood. He has thousands of comic books in his collection, but these are larger and sturdier.
With Wonder Woman out of commission, it was great to see Pretty Bird in a major role. The book was rather graphically gruesome feeding the needs of today. Unlike movies, I am unable to close my eyes before the scene in comics. Old heroes I loved like Hal Jordan's GL. The relationship between Hal, Dinah and Ollie. Barbara and Commissioner Gordon interaction. Zatanna brief but critical cameo. I loved it!
I like the book a little bit, the illustrations were very nice but it focused WAY to much on the Sinestro Corps, and I feel that not every character in the book has their time in the spotlight. Batman pops in half way through the book, and green lanterns motives sometimes were very confusing to me. If you like Injustice and Green Lantern, this book is worth buying.
